You can't take a child and expect them to be focused on school work all day long. They are not robots and most adults have trouble focusing all day long with out some sort of interaction period during the day. Even if its a 15 minute break to walk out back and chat about something other than work.. Kids cant be expected to be a robot.. to perform in school at their best with out a chance to let the energy out. they become bouncing balls of energy and irritated when they do not have an outlet to let the energy out.. This makes teaching them harder.. recess is a must!~Ivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10521114081122031366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17200851.post-1151538364816408792006-06-28T18:46:00.000-05:002006-06-28T18:46:00.000-05:00I gotta say I agree...<BR/>Without a doubt, playground politics have certainly played a more important role in my life, both professionally and personally than anything I "memorized" for some test along the way...<BR/>Out there you learn a heck of a lot more than how to run a 50 yd dash or play a game, you're getting the good stuff there like how to be a team player, how to manipulate others to get what you want, how they'll manipulate you, the laws of supply and demand, how to play fair, how to cheat and what the difference means. You learn how to sort the weak from the strong, how to pick your battles- sometimes the hard way, you learn about teamwork, self confidence, integrity and honesty, and lots of other character building lessons. Stuff you just can't learn from a book. And as far as getting bumps and bruises along the way, well, welcome to life kid! It's not all rosey and wonderful all the time, and there's cetainly a lesson there. <BR/>There's a lot of things I survived as a kid- I'm sure that educators and professionals around the globe are shocked that I am still around after thirty something years of what life had tossed my way as a kid- things like riding in the back of a pick up truck-almost every where we ever went as a family. Or drinking water from the hose. What about that time I went swimming RIGHT after dinner? I ate mudpies, worms, catfood and paste. I was bucked off a horse in the seventh grade- and we didn't sue anyone. Rode my bike without a helmet, stayed gone all day during the summer, swam in the creek, peed in the woods, had mush-melon fights, cow pattie fights, fist fights, best friends, ate gobbs of candy, shared hamburgers and lollipops with the dog, fell out of trees, shot each other with the BB gun, and goodness knows what else- and amazingly lived through and loved every minute of it, and it's all a part of who I am today- and yes- I've got the scars to prove it!<BR/>"They" -the ones making decisions about this kind of stuff need to quit using a test as a measuring stick to the success of our young people and start recognizing them for the unique indivduals that they grow up to be.Girl_in_Camohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16338205074370491558noreply@blogger.com
